| This season we expect to field 6-7 cheerleading squads to support the AWESOME SSA Wildcat football teams. These squads will cheer for home and away games. The registration fee includes the use of a uniform that must be returned at the end of the season (additional security deposit required). Practice starts mid-August and the season runs through early November. No experience is necessary for football cheerleading and no tryouts are required.
This season we'll continue to distribute uniforms to our football cheerleaders. We will also distribute poms for their use during the season. At the time uniforms and poms are distributed, a $75 security deposit will be collected. At the end of the season, uniforms must be returned to SSA. If the uniform is returned, $65 will be returned to the participant with $10 being retained as a uniform rental fee to help us replace uniforms as they become worn. Fundraising is an important and very necessary activity for our program. Cheerleading is a very costly activity to produce and operate. This, combined with our desire to keep our registration fee reasonable, necessitates fundraising. Every cheerleader will be required to participate in one fundraising activity. There will be a minimum level of participation. Those not wishing to sell product will have the opportunity to "buy out" for a set fee. The choice is yours, sell or buy out. But every cheerleader will participate in fundraising. This will be our fourth season for Cheer Cubs. Cheer Cubs is a program for 4 & 5 year olds. Cheer Cubs will meet for one hour each weekend and then cheer during half time of chosen home games. Cheer Cubs provides and introduction to cheerleading by teaching basic motions, jumps, and tumbling skills. The cost for this program is $25.00. SSA will hold its SIXTH ANNUAL CHEERLEADING SUMMER CAMP this summer. Plans are still being finalized and will be posted here as soon as possible. Evaluations/Tryouts are required for SSA competition cheer squads. Experience is helpful but not required. Evaluations for the 2003 - 2004 competition season will be held June 3, 4, 5, & 7 at NWHS. Additional tryouts will be held as openings allow on an individual basis. For the first 3 evenings (2 hours each night), participants will learn a cheer, chant, and dance. On Saturday morning participants will demonstrate what they have learned and members of the squad will be chosen. This season we anticipate fielding 6 competition cheerleading squads: 6 & under, 8 & under, 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under, and seniors (18 & under - must be in high school). Our competition teams support the SSA football teams and participate in local, regional, and national level competitions Formerly poms, the program is now called dance. This squad is open to participants ages 9-14 years old. This squad will perform at home football games and will compete in local and regional competitions. Evaluations/Tryouts are required for the SSA dance team. Evaluations for the 2003 - 2004 competition season will be held June 4, 5, & 7 at NWHS. We're looking forward to an incredible season, and hope to see you there! CHEERS! Lynn Ellis Cheerleading Director |
